About HowToJoomla

HowToJoomla started in September 2006 with the goal of giving back to the Joomla! community.

HowToJoomla is not the best, most comprehensive Joomla tips site out there. That's not the goal. The goal is to share some of the knowledge and experience that I have gained through years of using the world's best content managment system. I hope that you will find this site useful and visit often. As I come across new tips and ideas, I will post them here for all to see.

About Me

I am a 30-year-old husband and father of 2 (Lucy and Miles). I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from Baylor University, and have been working with the Mambo/Joomla CMS since Fall of 2003.

On February 1, 2008, I started a web design, development, and consulting company specializing in designing and developing custom Joomla-powered websites. The new company is aptly named Cory Webb Media, LLC. The double meaning is purely unintentional, but with a last name like "Webb" it is difficult to escape the obvious puns. If you are looking for professional assistance with your website, please feel free to contact me to discuss your project.

I also run HowToJoomla, CoryWebb.com (my personal website/blog), and JoomlaForm.com (a site dedicated to promoting good design in the Joomla! community). In my spare time (if there is such a thing), I volunteer with the youth ministry at my church.

I'm creating my first joomla site and my client requires the article manager to mirror as much as possible the menu manager (for articles added to several pages - to appear in the section they were originally added to if they appear more than once) and to mirror the live site. Can anyone advise or assist? It's very confusing to have to filter and re-organise the article manager to achieve this particularly if the client clears their cache frequently which I know they do. Can this be hardcoded or is there a solution. Your help ana advice would be greatly appreciated.

Help with Joomla
written by Nathan, July 25, 2009
Cory, I know you are busy but I need some help. I am trying to move a clients joomla website from their old hosting company to my server and I am not familiar with Joomla in any way. I could really use some help on how to do this. I have the entire site downloaded on my computer and I installed Joomla to my server. I am not sure how to upload the clients site to my server. I would appreciate any help you could give.

Thanks,

Nathan Gault

Yes, I read this and I need to get the SQL file from the old provider. That will most likely be my biggest challenge. I used my ftp client to download everything from that server but had no idea about a SQL file. Is there anything that can be done without that file if this provider does not work with me and give me that?

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do if you can't get the data from the old provider.
