<description>Your article is basically accurate with the exception that “clearing your browsers cache and refreshing the page will display the new favicon.ico”, in IE 7 it doesn’t happen. I have cleared the cache three times and closed and reopened the browser and IE 7 continues to display the old icon.

That isn’t surprising as any flavor of IE is garbage. IE is slow and bug riddled Firefox and Google Chrome are substantially faster, and they conform to W3C standards which IE doesn’t.

When you are developing a website you can dumb down your code to work with IE or check which browser the viewer is using and write special code for IE and then code for the rest of the browsers.

Check this site http://distinctiveblinds.com with Firefox and then with IE; the Firefox code is pure CSS and the IE site is pure CSS but to achieve the same look in IE I would have to use image files (which load slower) because IE doesn’t support the full CSS standard.

<description>The reason the icon isnt changing is because you need to right click on the icon select properties, then tick the box where it says read only, click apply up load to templates/rhuk_milkyway, all done. I found that was the only way to do this. Shane - shane</description>

			<title>Try This</title>
			<link>http://www.howtojoomla.net/2007050865/how-tos/miscellaneous/how-to-change-your-favicon#comment-1622</link>
			<description>@kerastes
Open your website in your browser.
If you are using Firefox/Mozilla/Flock etc, then right click the page and select &quot;VIEW PAGE SOURCE&quot;
When the page opens, look for something like this, using this site as an example:

Here you will see that the favicon.ico reside in the htj_960 template folder.

You should use ftp or cPanel etc, to place you favicon.ico file in your chosedn templates location.

This procedure is also try for your administration pages. The majority of users will use the standard admin template, so using the above procedure go look at:

Again, upload your file to that location.

As you say that your site only shows a white page, then it most likely that the template you use, does not have a favicon.ico supplied with it.

For those that say they have tried and it does not work, try purging your cache, via Tools in the Admin Panel.
Then clear your browsers cache (CTRL + F5)

Would be interesting to know.

			<description>orchid1 try these steps.
remove the favourite from you brower.
Clear your browser cache.
Load the site back up and now add it to favourites.

I had the same problem and this fixed my issue.
