Hi Saumya,

This was written for building a template with Joomla! 1.0. If you follow these steps with Joomla! 1.5, it will not work.

Cory - thank you so much for this amazing resource! It is by far the most comprehensive guide that I have found so far.

Thanks to you, I successfully created my first template - archived the file - and uploaded through the joomla interface.

Only one problem... I'm a 1.5 user!

I know that you must be a busy person. However, could you please briefly list the things one must do differently when templating for 1.5? This would be such a great help to those of us who are new to joomla and using the latest version.

Thanks again for all of your great work, Natasha :D - Natasha Murphy

Hi Andre,

I'll try to answer your questions, but those are pretty loaded questions that are difficult to answer in a comment post:

1) mosShowHead is a function defined in the mainframe object in Joomla 1.0. It is pre-set to load certain meta tags and the page title. The page title is set to be the site name and (if you have dynamic page titles enabled in your global configuration) the title of the article or component on any given page of the site. It is possible to customize the title, but that would take too long to explain here. mosShowHead also enables component developers to dynamically add to the "head" of your html page, so for example they could add custom CSS or javascript.

2) mosLoadModules( $positionname [, $modulestyle]) - see this article for a more thorough explanation.

3) mosMainBody() is what Joomla 1.0 uses to load the currently active main component of the system. It knows what to load based on the link query parameters sent to it. For example, if the link were "index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1", mosMainBody knows to load the content component to view the article whose id is 1. You set up your links in the menu manager, so you can set up a menu that links to the content component (article, category, section, etc) or any other component that you have installed.

I really hope that explanation helps. There is a lot more I could say about those 3 questions, but I think this answers them as succinctly as possible.

Good luck! - Cory

1) Exactly how does "mosShowHead()" know what title to display( how do you set the title)? (same for meta tags)

2) How do you define new positions for modules?

3) How does "mosMainBody()" know what to display? - Andre

Hi Cory:
First of all, I would like to thank you for this excellent work you've done to help out newbies. I've had difficulties to find documentation about how to manage/modify Joomla, so your site came handy.

I just installed Joomla 1.5 in my localhost to learn and thinking in building a community site with the following
- forum, video, blog, photos, news, buy & sell, etc.

So here are some questions from a newbie:
- in your site, you recommend to use WordPress for blog, is there any other extension you recommend beside WP to have above features?
- how to build a "tab" content just like the one showing in http://www.joomlahacks.com/joomla/templates/0,0,0,0,6,6,8/ (it's on the right side of the page, under Dell. I'm thinking in having some of the sections in tab.

Sorry for those dumb questions, I just started with Joomla. Thanks in advance.[removed]void(0);

Hi, very helpfull tut.
But there is something between the design-step and the writing of the CSS.
Adobe FW and Photoshop are slicing to put your images into tables. But I want to make a tabeless website. So, is it just that easy to write down the dimensions of the graphics etc. to make a css? Maybe you can help me white that.
Greetings,Geert - Geert

"restricted access" appears if you're using Joomla 1.5.x (this template is for 1.0.x). Strange that you managed to install this template at all...anyway you just have to enable System Legacy in the Plugin Manager. - quick

Hi Den,

I do not know if such a picture exists. The only thing I can tell you is to look at the source HTML of your site.
