TagBot Validation Errors PDF Print E-mail
Written by Cory
Thursday, 07 December 2006

Correction: Fiji Web Design, the makers of the TagBot Plugin, released version 1.0.5 beta, which fixes the XHTML validation errors. Thanks to RR Aranda for pointing that out to me.

Click here to download version 1.05 with valid XHTML.

I was using TagBot until I tried to check HowToJoomla's validation at the W3 Markup Validation Service. TagBot was creating several validation errors, so I have turned it off until I can look at the code and modify to make it output valid XHTML Transitional markup.

If valid markup is important to you (and it should be), do not use TagBot unless you know how to modify the code.

That made me chuckle! Way to go promoting good XHTML, Cory. It is good for J!

Did you communicate with the developer at all before publishing this post? The developer's download area explicitly labels v1.0.5 as "an update that is valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional". It does that for me (according to the W3C Validator) and works like a charm. I would add that the developer (Gabe/Fiji Web Design) in my experience provides faster, friendlier support than most commercial software vendors- extraordinary for a small, open source vendor supplying a product for free. It bothers me to see him or his product wrongly crititicized with the only comment to be a rah-rah for the critic, apparently from someone who doesn't realize the criticism is off-base.

RR Aranda: Thank you for posting that. I was not aware of the fix. You are correct that I should have taken the time to look at the developer's website before I posted this. I will make the correction to the post.

BS. The support I receive from the owner of mytagbot.com is suck. My bot is still not working. I does not collect ID while scanning or after scan. Sent 16 e-mail to author no reply.

Hi Tina,

I'm sorry you feel that way, but the tag bot you are referring to is a different product. I am removing your links to that product because it seems like your post might be a thinly veiled attempt at spamming my site.

About HowToJoomla

HowToJoomla was started in September 2006 by me, Cory Webb, a long-time Mambo/Joomla user with a desire to give back to the community that has given so much to him.

HowToJoomla is not the best, most comprehensive Joomla tips site out there. That's not the goal. The goal is to share some of the knowledge and experience that I have gained through years of using the world's best content managment system. I hope that you will find this site useful and visit often. As I come across new tips and ideas, I will post them here for all to see.

I hope you enjoy using HowToJoomla and find it very useful.

Please take some time to read the Disclaimer.

Thanks for visiting!

About Me

I am a 29-year-old husband and father of a beautiful baby girl named Lucy. I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from Baylor University, and over 4 years experience working with the Mambo/Joomla CMS.

On February 1, 2008, I started a web design, development, and consulting company specializing in designing and developing custom Joomla-powered websites. The new company is aptly named Cory Webb Media, LLC. The double meaning is purely unintentional, but with a last name like "Webb" it is difficult to escape the obvious puns. If you are looking for professional assistance with your website, please feel free to contact me to discuss your project.

I also run HowToJoomla, CoryWebb.com (my personal website/blog), and JoomlaForm.com (a site dedicated to promoting good design in the Joomla! community). In my spare time (if there is such a thing), I volunteer with the youth ministry at my church.
