New Life for Joomlaboard PDF Print E-mail
Written by Cory
Friday, 27 April 2007

I just discovered that the Joomlaboard team has merged with the Fireboard team. (Read the announcement at the Fireboard site here.) This is an exciting development for the Joomla! community because the Fireboard component breathes new life into a much needed component.

Joomlaboard has been around for a long time. It started out as a simple message board component for Mambo, and it grew into a more full-featured forum component like what you see today. It has long been the only full-integrated Joomla! forum component available, which in my opinion makes it more appealing than some of the bridged forum components like phpBB and SMF. However, development has slowed down in recent years, and it has not kept up with other forum packages' features.

With the birth of Fireboard, and the subsequent merger of Joomlaboard with Fireboard, it looks like this great component might once again become the forum component of choice for Joomla! webmasters. Thanks to the Fireboard team for picking up the slack, and thanks to the Joomlaboard team for recognizing their efforts by joining forces with them.

Fireboard is AMAZING and the community standing behind it will push it forward . I moved to Fireboard just after I saw thier forum .. I was like ( THIS IS THE FORUM I WANT TO USE )

Fireboard will be a real slap to the face of all forums that work with bridges . People are really sick of using these bridges it always cause errors and require some one with experience to do it .

I recommend any one using Fireboard to come and join the community there ... post your feedback , wishlists , support requests and you will find lots of hands trying to help smilies/smiley.gif

I designed a dark template for FB 4 days after its release cause lots of people was asking for it. After it was done the developers welcomed the template and posted it on their website smilies/kiss.gif

Conclusion
Fireboard .... a great forum system ... a great community

Hi Ahmad,

Thanks for the information. Fireboard looks like a great forum component. I look forward to the chance to use it.

Yeah, and it couldn't have come at a better time after all of the stuff with SMF Bridge and Joomla 1.5

I recently took over a website that has fireboard. I have experience with PHPBB. I find it frustrating that the NEW posts system does not work correctly. Also no fix for the moving threads from one group to another, only thread by thread from inside the message. I'm sure they are working on it but as of today 12/1/07 we still can't get the new posts indicator to work correctly and some hacks to the code have not been great solutions. Theres an 18 page thread about this problem on the official forum. Hope we can get it to work as good as PHPBB worked for me over the years.

About HowToJoomla

HowToJoomla was started in September 2006 by me, Cory Webb, a long-time Mambo/Joomla user with a desire to give back to the community that has given so much to him.

HowToJoomla is not the best, most comprehensive Joomla tips site out there. That's not the goal. The goal is to share some of the knowledge and experience that I have gained through years of using the world's best content managment system. I hope that you will find this site useful and visit often. As I come across new tips and ideas, I will post them here for all to see.

I hope you enjoy using HowToJoomla and find it very useful.

Please take some time to read the Disclaimer.

Thanks for visiting!

About Me

I am a 28-year-old husband and father of a beautiful baby girl named Lucy. I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from Baylor University, and over 4 years experience working with the Mambo/Joomla CMS.

On February 1, 2008, I started a web design, development, and consulting company specializing in designing and developing custom Joomla-powered websites. The new company is aptly named Cory Webb Media, LLC. The double meaning is purely unintentional, but with a last name like "Webb" it is difficult to escape the obvious puns. If you are looking for professional assistance with your website, please feel free to contact me to discuss your project.

I also run HowToJoomla, CoryWebb.com (my personal website/blog), and JoomlaForm.com (a site dedicated to promoting good design in the Joomla! community). In my spare time (if there is such a thing), I volunteer with the youth ministry at my church.
