Joomla! 1.5 Beta 2 Released PDF Print E-mail
Written by Cory Webb
Friday, 04 May 2007

The core team has just announced the release of Joomla! 1.5 Beta 2! This release has been in the works for a long time (Beta 1 was released on October 12), and it marks a huge leap forward. I still wouldn't use 1.5 in a live site until the word "Beta" is removed from the title, but I can't wait to download it and start playing with the latest version.

Congratulations to the core team on a great effort! Great job!

Chris,
As a minister to youth, I thank you all the things you have done to help others. Including your ChipIn to help this young girl with her therapy. I am working on a Joomla! site for the Christian high school where I teach Bible. I have SOME experience handling the back end of Joomla, getting what I need out of existing templates, even opening up slices in Photoshop and modifying them to fit my needs.

Right now, I have a template "filling in," but I have a Photoshop template design laid out... I'd just like to know how I take that .psd file and do whatever I have to do to make it work for Joomla (1.0.x AND 1.5, since it looks like I'll have to migrate eventually).

I don't have a LOT of experience in XHTML or PHP... but I used to know HTML (back in the early 90s)... its BEEN a while! I have enjoyed reading through your template posts... but I'm wondering if you have those in a downloadable format (pdf, doc, txt, whatever) all in one package. Its hard to look at what you've got on your page, tab over, or shift over to another program, try something and then test it out to see how it worked.

If you can help, I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks!

Phillip Swindall

Hi Phillip,

My name is actually Cory, but my middle name is Christopher. smilies/smiley.gif

I'll see what I can do about getting my tutorials in a downloadable format. In the meantime, you should check out Barrie North's template tutorial. You can find it at his website, Compass Designs. He has it in a PDF format, so you can download it and print it out.

Good luck to you!

Cory

About HowToJoomla

HowToJoomla was started in September 2006 by me, Cory Webb, a long-time Mambo/Joomla user with a desire to give back to the community that has given so much to him.

HowToJoomla is not the best, most comprehensive Joomla tips site out there. That's not the goal. The goal is to share some of the knowledge and experience that I have gained through years of using the world's best content managment system. I hope that you will find this site useful and visit often. As I come across new tips and ideas, I will post them here for all to see.

I hope you enjoy using HowToJoomla and find it very useful.

Please take some time to read the Disclaimer.

Thanks for visiting!

About Me

I am a 29-year-old husband and father of a beautiful baby girl named Lucy. I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from Baylor University, and over 4 years experience working with the Mambo/Joomla CMS.

On February 1, 2008, I started a web design, development, and consulting company specializing in designing and developing custom Joomla-powered websites. The new company is aptly named Cory Webb Media, LLC. The double meaning is purely unintentional, but with a last name like "Webb" it is difficult to escape the obvious puns. If you are looking for professional assistance with your website, please feel free to contact me to discuss your project.

I also run HowToJoomla, CoryWebb.com (my personal website/blog), and JoomlaForm.com (a site dedicated to promoting good design in the Joomla! community). In my spare time (if there is such a thing), I volunteer with the youth ministry at my church.
