ScratchBack

Today I came across an interesting website called ScratchBack. They offer a product called the ScratchBack TopSpot widget, which is basically a digital tip jar for your website. It seems like a fun way to add some interaction to your website while making a little bit of extra money. The basic concept is the visitor pays a small fee (like leaving a tip at a restaurant), and in return, the visitor leaves a link to his or her website with a brief message that displays when your mouse hovers over the link. The last person to leave a tip gets the number 1 spot in the top spots list, and the person before that gets bumped down to the next spot automatically. Right now, I only have 10 spots. Once 10 people have left a tip after you, your link gets bumped off of the list.

If you visit HowToJoomla often and find this site useful, now you have a fun, interactive way to give back. Plus, a link to your website will appear in a prominent position on every page of HowToJoomla.net. All for just $2.00 USD!

Click here to visit the ScratchBack website and get a TopSpots widget for your website.

Is there a site that lists web designers/developers in the US that use Joomla? I had someone set up my company website using it. I like it as I can maintain it pretty much myself but he has gone completely AWAL on me and I'm left with a pile of work to learn. I'm in need of someone who can take it on from here. Thanks.

Kate

Hi Cory!

This seems like a great idea! I haven't really got a spot on my site to include it right now, but I certainly have $2USD to put my name first on the list! smilies/grin.gif

Keep the top content coming!

Hi Kate - sorry to hear the news. If you'd like me to review your situation, please complete CoosCreations.com/form1 - you'll be sent a copy of the form as well which would be a great start when approaching other companies to help.

We're not based in the US, but as you know location is becoming less of an issue these days! smilies/smiley.gif

If it was a US-based designer you were looking for in particular, have you had a look at Joomlancers.com?

Again, if you've got that form filled out from my site this will be a great head-start to getting a good solid quote from a freelancer on there - these are all the questions that they'll want and if you've already answered them in your brief the good freelancers are more likely to pay attention and get in touch!

What ever you decide to do - good luck!

Scratchback is cool. You might be interested to know there is a similar widget available at www.bringabuddy.net. It allows for link sales as well as rewarding visitors for referrals…

Check it out..

Do you know if these links help with SEO stuff? Or are we just helping you pay your hosting fees? smilies/wink.gif Thanks! Love the widget!

Hi Anna,

They actually do not help with SEO stuff. Each link has rel="nofollow", which tells the search engines like Google not to index the link. It's not really helping me pay my hosting fees either, since I've only made about $14 so far. smilies/smiley.gif

About HowToJoomla

HowToJoomla was started in September 2006 by me, Cory Webb, a long-time Mambo/Joomla user with a desire to give back to the community that has given so much to him.

HowToJoomla is not the best, most comprehensive Joomla tips site out there. That's not the goal. The goal is to share some of the knowledge and experience that I have gained through years of using the world's best content managment system. I hope that you will find this site useful and visit often. As I come across new tips and ideas, I will post them here for all to see.

I hope you enjoy using HowToJoomla and find it very useful.

Please take some time to read the Disclaimer.

Thanks for visiting!

About Me

I am a 28-year-old husband and father of a beautiful baby girl named Lucy. I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from Baylor University, and over 4 years experience working with the Mambo/Joomla CMS.

On February 1, 2008, I started a web design, development, and consulting company specializing in designing and developing custom Joomla-powered websites. The new company is aptly named Cory Webb Media, LLC. The double meaning is purely unintentional, but with a last name like "Webb" it is difficult to escape the obvious puns. If you are looking for professional assistance with your website, please feel free to contact me to discuss your project.

I also run HowToJoomla, CoryWebb.com (my personal website/blog), and JoomlaForm.com (a site dedicated to promoting good design in the Joomla! community). In my spare time (if there is such a thing), I volunteer with the youth ministry at my church.
